To a solution of N-(propan-2-yl)benzene-1,2-diamine (552 mg, 3.4 mmol) in ethanol (10 mL) is added a 3M solution of cyanogen bromide (1.35 mL, 4.04 mmol) in CH2Cl2. The reaction is stirred overnight and then concentrated. The crude residue is triturated with diethyl ether and the suspension is filtered to afford the title compound (870 mg, 92%) as a purple solid.
