Reaction Steps
NaOH (3.1 g, 77 mmol) is added to hydroxylamine hydrochloride (5.2 g, 75 mmol) at 0° C. and is stirred for 15 min. A solution of (2-phenyl-1,3-dioxolan-2-yl)acetonitrile (7 g, 37 mmol) in methanol (25 mL) is added dropwise to the reaction mixture at 0° C. The reaction mixture is allowed to warm to room temperature and is heated at 90° C. for 16 h. The solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure to afford the title compound as a brown solid (7 g, 85%) which is used in the next step without purification.
