Procedure

A mixture of (3,5-dichloro-6-phenylpyridazin-4-yl)(phenyl)methanol (200 mg, 0.6 mmol), manganese dioxide (700 mg, 8 mmol) in dry toluene (20 mL) was heated at 115° C. for 3 h under Dean Stark conditions. The reaction mixture was cooled and filtered, and the residue was washed with CH2Cl2. The filtrate was concentrated in vacuo. The crude residue was purified by column chromatography (silica gel, gradient 10 to 20% ethyl acetate/isohexane) yielding (3,5-dichloro-6-phenylpyridazin-4-yl)(phenyl)methanone as a solid (150 mg).
