A mixture of 0.19 g (1.07 mmol) of 6-amino-7-hydroxy-2-methyl-2,3-dihydroisoindol-1-one and 0.80 g (4.70 mmol) of 3,4-diethoxycyclobut-3-ene-1,2-dione in 10 ml of ethanol was heated at 60° C. for 24 hours. The reaction medium was concentrated and was taken up with diethyl ether with stirring (formation of a precipitate). The solid obtained was filtered off, washed twice with diethyl ether and dried. 235 mg of product were obtained. Yield=73%.
