A mixture of (Z)-4,5-diamino-1,3-dihydro-3-[(4-methyl-1H-imidazol-5-yl)methylene]-2H-indol-2-one (30 mg, 0.1175 mmol) (from Example 45 above) and formamidine hydrochloride (95 mg, 1.18 mmol) (Aldrich) in ethanol (1.5 mL) was heated at reflux for 1 h. The mixture was cooled to r.t., and the reaction was quenched with water. The aqueous layer was extracted with dichloromethane. The combined organic layers were washed with brine, dried over anhydrous Mg2SO4 and concentrated under reduced pressure. The crude oily residue was triturated with ether and the resulting yellow precipitate was collected by suction filtration. (First crop; yield 5 mg, 16%).
