Reaction Steps

To a mixture of 1.494 g (3.583 mmol) of the product of Example 5 dissolved in 15 mL of methanol and 15 mL of THF was added 15 mL of 1N NaOH solution. The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 36 h and the organics were removed in vacuo. The resulting mixture was acidified with 10% HCl and extracted with ethyl acetate. The combined organics were washed with water and brine, dried over MgSO4, filtered and concentrated in vacuo. The resulting residue was triturated with ether and filtered to provide 1.327 g (92%) of the desired carboxylic acid as a white solid. CI Mass Spec: 404 (M+H).
