Reaction Steps
To a solution of 0.799 g (1.862 mmol) of the product of Example 7 in 20 mL of methanol/THF (1:1) was added 9.3 mL of 1N sodium hydroxide solution and the resulting mixture was heated to reflux for 18 h. The reaction was then cooled to room temperature and the organics were removed in vacuo. The resulting mixture was acidified with 10% HCl and extracted with ethyl acetate. The combined organics were washed with water and brine, dried over MgSO4, filtered and concentrated in vacuo. The resulting residue was triturated with ether and filtered to provide 0.697 g (93%) of the desired carboxylic acid as a white solid. Electrospray Mass Spec: 402 (M+H).
