Procedure
2.47 g (10 mmol) of 2-bromo-5-chloro-1-indanone are dissolved in 30 ml of acetone and, at room temperature, a solution of 1.05 g (10 mmol) of N,N′-dimethylthiourea in 10 ml of acetone is added, and the mixture is stirred at room temperature for 5 h. The precipitate is filtered off with suction and dried in vacuo. Crystallization from methanol/diethyl ether results in the hydrobromide of 6-chloro-3-methyl-2-methylimino-2,3,8,8a-tetrahydroindeno[1,2-d]thiazol-3a-ol of melting point 181-183° C.
