Diphenylacetic acid 2-ethoxyethyl ester was prepared in the following manner: To a mixture of 2.0 g (9.4 mmol) of diphenylacetic acid in 10 ml of dichloromethane was added 1.1 ml (0.82 g, 11.4 mmol) of ethyl vinyl ether. The mixture was allowed to stir overnight at which point the reaction mixture was washed with aqueous sodium bicarbonate, dried with MgO-MgSO4, and concentrated in vacuo to give 1.7 g (6.0 mmol, 63% yield) of the corresponding ethoxy ethyl ester.
