Procedure

A suspension of 2,3,3a,4,6,7-hexahydro-3-[3-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]-7-[[3-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]methylene]thiopyrano[4,3-c]pyrazole-5,5-dioxide in 2ml of acetic anhydride and 25ml of acetic acid is heated on a steam bath for 15 minutes with occasional swirling. About 10ml of hot water is added and the solution is allowed to cool to room temperature. The solids are collected and washed with acetic acid/water (3/2) and water, and dried in vacuo over phosphorus pentoxide at 50°C to give 1.56g of the title compound, melting point 200°-202.5°C.
