Procedure
To a solution of 0.4 g. of 2-phenylthiocarbonylaminoimidazole [(IV), R = phenyl] in 20 ml. of chloroform there is added dropwise, at 20°-25°C., a solution of 0.165 ml. of sulfuryl chloride in 5 ml. of chloroform. After two hours the precipitate which forms is filtered, dissolved in methanol, and precipitated from ether to yield 2-phenyl-1,2,4-thiadiazolo-[2,3-a]-imidazole hydrochloride.
