Procedure

A mixture of 3.5 g. of 2,4-diphenyl-6-methylpyrylium perchlorate, 2.5 g. of 2,6-diphenyl-4-pyrone and 40 ml. of acetic anhydride is refluxed for 15 minutes, cooled, and the solid is collected, washed with ether, and recrystallized from acetic anhydride. A product having a m.p. of 258° C. is obtained. The theoretical values for C35H25ClO6 and the actual values are as follows:
