A mixture of 5.14 g. of 4-amino-6-chloro-2-phenylpyrimidine and 10.1 g. of p-chlorothiophenol is heated in an oil bath maintaining a temperature of 150°C. for twenty minutes. The reaction mixture is triturated with hot 10°/o sodium hydroxide. The product is collected on a filter, and washed with water repeatedly. The crude product weighs 8.0 g. and melts at 118°-121°C. Upon recrystallization from cyclohexane, there is obtained 4-amino-6-(4-chlorophenylthio)-2-phenylpyrimidine, m.p. 124°-125°C.
