2'-[1-(2-Pyridyl)ethylidene]-p-anisanilide (6.0 g., 0.018 mole) is reduced in a Parr apparatus in 100 ml. of acetic acid employing 1.0 g. of 10% palladium on carbon catalyst. The catalyst is collected, the filtrate concentrated under reduced pressure and the residue thus obtained distributed between water and ethyl acetate. This mixture is made basic with concentrated ammonium hydroxide and the ethyl acetate extract separated, dried, and concentrated to provide 2'-1-(2-pyridyl)ethyl-p-anisanilide, m.p. 125°-126°C.
