In the manner described in EXAMPLE 3, treatment of 2-(3-carboxypropyl)cyclopentan-1-one (Example 5) with p-toluenesulfonic acid monohydrate in ethanol gives a colorless oil, b.p. 93°C. (0.10 mm).
