Reaction Steps

A mixture of 3.19 g. (10 moles) of 1-bromo-4,4-dimethyl-3-tetrahydropyranyloxy-trans-1-octene (Example 1173) and 90 ml. of 3:1:1 tetrahydrofuran-acetic acid-water is stirred at amibent temperatures for 20 hours. The solvent is evaporated in vacuo and the residue is chromatographed on silica gel. The title compound is isolated using 10-20% ethyl acetate in benzene.
