Procedure
1, 1 - di (4 - biphenylyl) -3 - amino - prop -1 -ene (1g) was added to a mixture of anhydrous sodium acetate (1g), acetic acid (10 ml) and acetic anhydride (1 ml) and the mixture was refluxed for one hour then evaporated in vacuo. The residue was washed with water and dried and recrystallised from n - propanol to give 1, 1- di (4-biphenylyl) -3 - acetamido - prop -1 - ene. (m.p. 246°- 249°C). This compound was reduced in a similar manner to the method described in Example 43 to yield 1, 1 - di (4-biphenylyl) -3 - ethylamino - prop -1 - ene.
