Procedure

4.3 g of Z-Thr(tBu)-Gln-Asp(OtBu)-Phe-OCH3 in 300 ml of methanol are hydrogenated with 1 g of 10 % strength palladium on charcoal catalyst in the usual manner and after completion of the hydrogen uptake the mixture is filtered and the filtrate evaporated. The evaporation residue, a solid colourless foam, is employed for the next stage without further purification.
