Reaction Steps
To a solution of methyl 7-[2-hydroxy-5-(3-hydroxy-1-octenyl)cyclopentyl]heptanoate (0.8 g.) [prepared as described in Example 5] in ethanol (16 ml.) was added 33% methylamine in ethanol (4 ml.) followed by sodium ethoxide in ethanol [0.8 ml. of a solution prepared by dissolving sodium (0.2 g.) in ethanol (1 ml.)]. The resulting solution was refluxed for 1 day and the ethanol removed in vacuo. The residue was diluted with ice-cooled water and extracted twice with dichloromethane. The combined dichloromethane extracts were dried over magnesium sulphate and evaporated to give N-methyl-7-[2-hydroxy-5-(3-hydroxy-1-octenyl)cyclopentyl]heptanoamide (0.2g., 25%).
