Procedure

12.16 g of piperidine hydrochloride and 18.9 g of 1-benzylpiperid-4-one are dissolved in 50 ml of an MeOH/H2O mixture (50/50; v/v). 5.3 g of NaCN dissolved in 20 ml of water are added dropwise. After stirring for 48 hours, the precipitate formed is filtered, rinsed with water and dried to give 27 g of the expected product.
