Reaction Steps
A mixture of 1-ethyl-6-methoxycarbonyl-N-(cyclohexylmethyl)-1H-pyrazolo[3,4-b]quinoline-4-amine (1.4 g), ethanol (90 ml), KOH (2 g) and water (10 ml) is stirred at room temperature overnight. The reaction mixture is evaporated and the residue is partitioned between CH2Cl2 and water. The aqueous layer is separated, acidified with acetic acid and the solid that forms is collected by filtration and dried. The solid is recrystallized from hot acetic acid (50 ml) to afford 1.0 g of 1-ethyl-6-carboxy-N-(cyclohexylmethyl)-1H-pyrazolo[3,4-b]quinolin-4-amine. HOAc, m.p. 240° C.
