A mixture of 2 g of 4-(chloroacetyl)-4,5-dihydro-7-[3-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]pyrazolo[1,5-a]-pyrimidine-3-carbonitrile and 20 ml of concentrated sulfuric acid was stirred at room temperature for 2 hours, then poured into ice water, stirred, and filtered. The product was washed with water and dried giving 2 g of the desired intermediate, mp 174°-176°.
