Isopropyl N-cyano-3-pyridinecarboximidate (0.50 g, 2.6 mmol) was dissolved in methanol (5 ml), and a solution of p-nitrobenzylamine hydrochloride (0.55 g, 2.9 mmol) and triethylamine (0.32 g, 3.2 mmol) in methanol (5 ml) was added. The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 hours. After the reaction was completed, the reaction solution was concentrated under reduced pressure, and the concentrated residue thus obtained was crystallized from methanol-diethyl ether to give the title compound (0.70 g, 2.5 mmol, yield: 95%) as colorless powder.
