77 g of potassium N-(2-biphenylylsulfonyl)carbonimidodithioate were suspended in 100 ml of toluene, and 37 ml of thionyl chloride were added dropwise at 0° to 10° C. over the course of 1 hour. After the addition, the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 hours. The reaction mixture was filtered, and the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure and distilled under reduces pressure to give 30 g of 2-phenylbenzenesulfonyl isothiocyanate represented by the following formula: ##STR27##
