Procedure

The corresponding tetraester, 10c (0.10 g, 0.17 mmol) was dissolved in 5 ml 0.5M KOH-EtOH solution. After 2 hours stirring at room temperature, the ethanol was evaporated to dryness and water was added. The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 30 min whereafter the product was precipitated with 2M hydrochloric acid.
