| Product | Ethyl 2-benzylacrylate | HCID 11084648 | — |
Reaction Steps
127.6 g of diethyl 2-benzylmalonate are refluxed with 20.4 g of NaOH in 1 l of dry ethanol. After 8 hours, the solvent is removed, the residue is taken up in 2N HCl, and the solution is extracted with ether. The organic phase is dried and concentrated. The residue is cooled, and 51.2 ml of diethylamine and 43.7 ml of 36% strength formaldehyde solution are added. The mixture is left to stand overnight and then extracted with ether, and the extracts are dried and concentrated. The product is distilled.
