Procedure

A solution of 1.55 g of (13E)-(8R,9S,11R,12R,-15S,16RS)-9-hydroxy-16,19-dimethyl-11,15-bis(tetrahydropyran-2-yloxy)-13,18-prostadienoic acid in methylene chloride was treated with ethereal diazomethane solution until the evolution of nitrogen ceased and the solution assumed a permanent yellow color. After removal of excess diazomethane as well as the solvent, the residue (1.58 g) was used without further purification in the subsequent reaction stage.
