2.6 g (10 millimoles) of 6-chloroacetyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-1,1,4,4-tetramethylnaphthalene (for preparation see Example 28), 2.1 g (10 millimoles) of 4-carbethoxybenzamidinium chloride and 5 g of potassium carbonate in 100 ml of dimethylformamide were refluxed for 1 hour. After cooling, the mixture was poured onto water and stirred for 10 minutes, and the precipitate formed was filtered off under suction. Purification by column chromatography (silica gel; 9:1 n-heptane/ethyl acetate) gave 0.3 g of the title compound of melting point 186°-188° C.
