PROCEDURE

The N-oxide from above (0.215 g) was dissolved in Ac2O (2.5 mL) and heated to 90° C. for 24 h followed by removal of the solvent under reduced pressure. The crude material was purified by column chromatography (50:1 CH2Cl2/MeOH) to give the rearranged acetic acid 3-cyclohexyl-pyridin-2-ylmethyl ester as a light brown solid (0.23 g, 99%, 2 steps). 1H NMR (CDCl3) δ 1.25-1.45 (m, 5H), 1.78-1.86 (m, 5H), 2.13 (s, 3H), 2.70 (m, 1H), 7.24 (m, 1H), 7.62 (d, 1H, J=6.0 Hz), 8.46 (d, 1H, J=2.8 Hz).
