To a solution of (S)—(N1-(3,5-dimethyl-pyridin-2-ylmethyl)-N1-(5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-quinolin-8-yl)-butane-1,4-diamine (HCl salt) (440 mg, 0.83 mmol) in water (2 mL) was added 1.0 N NaOH (5 mL). The mixture was extracted with CH2Cl2 (5×10 mL). The combined organic extracts were dried (Na2SO4) and concentrated and provided (S)-N1-(3,5-Dimethyl-pyridin-2-ylmethyl)-N1-(5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-quinolin-8-yl)-butane-1,4-diamine in quantitative yield.
