Into 20 ml of acetonitrile was dissolved 500 mg of 4-[(2S,5R)-2,5-dimethylpiperazin-1-yl]-2-fluoro-6-methoxybenzonitrile, and then 274 mg of 4-isocyanatobenzonitrile was added thereto, followed by 1 hour of stirring at room temperature. The reaction solution was concentrated, followed by addition of ethyl acetate and filtration. The filtrate was removed by evaporation and the resulting powder was crystallized from hexane-ethyl acetate (85:15, v/v) to obtain 535 mg of the title compound.
