The title compound was prepared by adding 179 μL (0.179 mmol) of 1 N NaOH to a solution of 100 mg (0.179 mmol) methyl 4-[2-formyl-[3-[4-[2-(1-pyrrolidinyl)ethoxy]benzyl]benzo[b]thiophen-2-yl]phenoxy]]butyrate (Example 19, Part B) dissolved in 1.0 mL of 1:1 THF:MeOH mixture. The solution was stirred at room temperature for 22 h. The reaction mixture was then evaporated in vacuo and dried in a vacuum oven at 55° C. over P2O5 to yield the title compound (101.4 mg, 0.179 mmol, quantitative yield) as a light yellow solid.
