Procedure
Carbon dioxide was passed for 1 hour into 553 g of a 15.56% strength aqueous N,N-dimethylpiperidinium hydroxide solution. The solution heated up from 20° C. to 38° C. within °minutes, and then cooled down again. 300 ml of toluene was added to 100 ml of the solution. The resultant mixture was refluxed and the water was distilled off azeotropically over a period of 11 hours.
