Ethylchloroformate (930 mg; 8.4 mmol) was added to a stirred solution of 4-[3-(3,7-diazabicyclo[3.3.1]non-3-yl)-2-hydroxypropoxy]benzonitrile (2.3 g; 7.6 mmol; see Example G above) and NaOH (1.5 mL; 10 M) in DCM (60 mL). The solution was stirred at rt. for 1 h, washed with water and the organic layer was separated, dried (Na2SO4) and concentrated. Purification using column chromatography (DCM:MeOH; 19:1) gave the title compound (1.4 g).
