4.9 ml (15 mmol) of a 3.0M ethereal solution of methylmagnesium bromide was diluted with 15 ml of ether. An ethereal solution of 2.0 g (10 mmol) of 1-(1-methylethyl)-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline-6-carbaldehyde was dropped into the dilution prepared above at room temperature. The obtained mixture was stirred at room temperature for one hour, followed by the addition of an aqueous solution of ammonium chloride. The resulting mixture was extracted with thyl acetate. The organic phase was washed with a saturated aqueous solution of common salt, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate and concentrated in a vacuum to give 2.1 g of the title compound as a brown oil.
