Procedure
2-t-Butoxycarbonyl-10-hydroxymethyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-benzo[b][1,6]-naphthyridine (202 mg, 0.643 mmol) was dissolved in methanol (1.3 ml), followed by adding thereto benzenesulfonic acid monohydrate (226.3 mg, 1.285 mmol), and the resulting mixture was heated under reflux at 70° C. for 3 hours. The reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature and then concentrated under reduced pressure to obtain the desired compound (361.2 mg, quant.) as a brown substance.
