Following the general procedure outlined in Synthetic Scheme VII, 4.1 g (15 mmol) of 1,2-dibromo-4,5-difluorobenzene, 3.0 g (18 mmol) of 4-methylthiophenylboronic acid (Example 1, Step 2) and 2.9 g (16.5 mmol) of 3-chloro-4-fluorophenylboronic acid were reacted. Purification by silica gel chromatography gave 3.5 g of 1-(3-chloro-4-fluorophenyl)-4,5-difluoro-2-[4-(methylthio)phenyl]benzene as a semi-solid which was used without further purification.
