Reaction Steps

To a solution of 0.28 g (5.0 m mol) of potassium hydroxide in 3 ml of water was added 25 ml of 2-propanol and the 1.3 g (5.33 m mol) of 1,3,5-trihydroxyxanthone. To the above mixture was the added 7.5 ml (93.47 m mol) of epichlorohydrin, and the mixture was treated as example 4 to yield a pale yellow powder (MeOH) (21), 0.45 g (1.26 mmol, 35%)
