Reaction Steps
Reaction of 5-nitro indole (3.0 g) with methyl acrylate (2.29 g) in the presence of potassium t-butoxide (0.258 g) and tetrabutylammonium bromide according to the method of Preparation 19 gave the title compound (3.0 g),m.p. 97°-99° C. Found: C,57.86; H,4.84; N,10.78. C12 H12N2O4 requires: C,58.06; H,4.87; N,11.28%.
