Procedure

200 mg (5.29 mmol) of sodium borohydride was added in portions to a solution of 620 mg (2.27 mmol) of the Compound 5 in 20 ml of ethanol while stirring under cooling with ice. After stirring for 17 hours at room temperature, the reaction mixture was concentrated under vacuum. A 0.1M phosphate buffer solution (pH 6.0) was added to the residue and the mixture was extracted with chloroform (three times). The organic layer was washed with water and saturated brine, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, and concentrated under vacuum. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography using a 1:1 ethyl acetate-hexane solution as an eluent to obtain 567 mg (yield: 91%) of the title compound.
