4-(3-Bromophenyl)-6,7-dihydro-4H-imidazo[4,5-c]pyridine-1,5-dicarboxylic acid di-tert-butyl ester (0.879 g, 1.83 mmol) and Zn(CN)2 (0.323 g, 2.75 mmol) were stirred in anh. DMF (30 mL) at 80° C. under Ar for 72 h. The solution was concentrated in vacuo, partitioned between CHCl3 and sat. NaHCO3 soln, dried (MgSO4), filtered, and concentrated to yield the title compound without further purification.
