Reaction Steps

A procedure similar to that described in Preparation 2 was repeated, except that 6.20 g of methyl indol-1-yl-acetate (prepared as described in Preparation 12), 1.50 g of lithium aluminum hydride and 220 ml of anhydrous tetrahydrofuran were used, to give 5.25 g of the title compound having Rf=0.33 (on silica gel thin layer chromatography using a 2:1 by volume mixture of hexane and ethyl acetate as the developing solvent).
