| Role | Name | HCID | Charge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reactant | Benzonitrile | HCID 7505 | — |
| Reactant | N-Hydroxyphthalimide | HCID 10665 | — |
| Solvent | Cyclohexane | HCID 8078 | — |
| Product | Cyclohexanol | HCID 7966 | 1% |
| Product | Cyclohexanone | HCID 7967 | 2.4% |
Reaction Steps
To 20 ml of benzonitrile were added 10 mmol of cyclohexane, 1 mmol of N-hydroxyphthalimide and 0.05 mmol of acetylacetonatocobalt Co(AA)3 and the resultant mixture was stirred under an oxygen atmosphere at a temperature of 75° C. for 16 hours. The products in the reaction mixture were analyzed by gas chromatography, and, as a result, cyclohexane was converted into cyclohexanone (yield 2.4%), cyclohexanol (yield 1%) with a conversion of not more than 5%. Adipic acid was not detected.
