Procedure

A mixture of 6.08 g (25 mmol) of 5-amino-4-cyano-3-(4-methoxy-benzylamino)-pyrazole, 5.14 ml (30 mmol) of N,N-dimethylformamide diethyl acetal and 90 ml of toluene is heated under reflux for 3 hours. The reaction mixture is then cooled to approx. 5° C. and filtered and the filter residue is washed with toluene, yielding the title compound; m.p. 147-148° C.
