Procedure
32.8 g (0.17 mol) of N-benzylmaleimide are heated under reflux with 24.2 g (0.17 mol) of diethyl tricyclo[5.2.1.02,6 ]deca-3,8-diene-1,4-dicarboxylate in 200 ml of 1,4-dioxane overnight. The mixture is concentrated, the residue is taken up in 80 ml of isopropanol and the product is allowed to crystallize out.
