A solution of 400 mg of 3-(3-methoxy-n-propyl)-2,4-thiazolidinedione and 260 mg of 2-chlorobezaldehyde in 4 ml of ethanol with one drop of piperidine was refluxed for 4 hours. The mixture was then worked up with ethyl acetate and water. The crude product was purified on a silica gel column (5% methanol in dichloromethane) to provide 200 mg of 1-(2-chlorophenylmethylene)-3-(3-methoxy-n-propyl)-2,4-thiazolidinedione. (P15 can also be obtained from Aldrich Chemical.).
