This compound was prepared in a manner similar to that of methyl 5'-fluoro-2'-methoxy-4-nitro-2-biphenylcarboxylate (EXAMPLE 107) from methyl 2-bromo-5-nitrobenzoate (1.80 g, 6.92 mmol), (PPh3)4Pd (0.33 g, 0.28 mmol), and 2-methoxy-5-methylphenylboronic acid (1.58 g, 9.51 mmol) to afford 2.03 g (98%) of methyl 2'-methoxy-5'methyl-4-nitro-2-biphenylcarboxylate as a white solid. Data for methyl (2'-methoxy-5'-methyl-4-nitro-2-biphenylcarboxylate): 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) 8.69 (d, J=2.5, 1H), 8.36 (dd, J=8.4, 2.5, 1H), 7.51 (d, J=8.5, 1H), 7.20 (m, 1H), 7.07 (d, J=2.1, 1H), 6.81 (d, J=8.4, 1H), 3.75 (s, 3H), 3.69 (s, 3H), 2.35 (s, 3H).
