Procedure
2.97 g of methyl α-methylcyanoacetimidate hydrochloride and 1.26 g of cyanamide were suspended in 30 ml of benzene and made to react for 5 hours at 25°C. Then, ammonium chlordie precipitate was filtered off and then the filtrate was concentrated to dryness in vacuo and 2.38 g of methyl N-cyano-α-methycyanoacetimidate was obtained (yield 86.8%) mp 68.5°C. Analysis calculated for C6H7N3O (%) C 52.54, H 5.15, N 30.64, found C 52.57, H 5.14, N 30.62.
