9-Benzoyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydrocarbazole-3,3-dicarboxylic acid (3.7 g.) was heated at 170°-200°C., till carbon dioxide evolution ceased, to give 2.5 g. of the title compound; m.p. 188°-190°C. (benzene).
