s-Triazolo(4,3-a)quinolin-1-ol (2.0 grams) was mixed with 125 milliliters of ethanol, and 1.0 gram of 5 percent palladium on carbon was added. The resulting mixture was hydrogenated at 50 psi hydrogen pressure and a temperature of 50°C., for 6 hours. The mixture was then filtered to remove catalyst, and the filtrate was evaporated to yield the desired 4,5-dihydro-s-triazolo(4,3-a)quinolin-1-ol product, m.p., 181°-2.5°C. Its identity was confirmed by NMR and by microanalysis.
